I LOVED the game play. I can't express how happy I was with combination of 2D and 3D. The visuals were also great. Anthony is one of the most AWESOME side characters EVER. He deserves his own game (or at least future cameos in other Metroid games). I would love to see an Anthony mode or something as a bonus in a future Metroid game. He was clearly the BEST thing about this game.

I hated the entire dynamic between Samus and Adam. He came off as more of a creep than a "father figure" and I honestly thought the whole "father figure" thing was some freaky Freudian sexual frustration dance the two of them seemed to be engaged in. Anthony was clearly the more respectable, responsible and awesome male in the game and I could not for the life of me figure out why Samus was so fixated on Adam when she HAD a father, who just happened to be a Chozo. (Also if I were her I'd totally dig Anthony instead).
It was more like, "I'm attracted to him and I want to have his babies and I don't know why. So I'll play hard to get so that the other guys respect me and Adam will want me more because he can't have me!" It was awkward and stupid and sometimes I wanted to beat myself senseless with the Wiimote to make it stop!
From a female perspective, Adam was a jackass who felt that his manhood was threatened by her which is why he'd let 20 lava monsters try to eat her before letting her use the Varia suit. I think the reason he shot her in the back to "freeze the Metroid" was because he was mad that she was showing it more affection than she showed him and had it little to do with stalling her so she wouldn't follow him.
Her irrational fixation on him led me to wonder if she was going to scream "Adam-san DAIIIIIIIIISUKI!!!!" with an anime fountain of tears while pounding on the glass when he went to take care of Sector 0. (I still plan to go back and re-watch that move file just to see if she indeed does mouth that when her audio is cut, because I totally expect it to be there).
I hated the excuse that she would not use something until Adam authorized it. I play a lot of video games and I'll accept just about ANY reason for starting with no power ups. Maybe her suit needs to reset, or maybe the Federation uninstalled everything, or maybe it was damaged and she needs to repair the data at terminals. Just about ANY of these excuses would have been better reasons than her taking orders from some dude who isn't even her CO anymore! I couldn't figure out if she was doing it out of respect because it was "his mission," if she was trying to prove how tough she was again (and how she'd be good to mate with because she's strong) or if she has some bizarre fetish where she secretly wants a man like Adam to possess her and make her do things.
The overall story was fine, I enjoyed the fact that it touched on mechanical sentience. But the whole Adam and Samus segment of the storyline dumbed her down in an effort to show her less tactical and more feminine side. I'm not saying that Samus isn't allowed to like someone. But a strong woman like her would probably better get along with someone like Anthony who sees her as more of a pal. Adam seems to see her as something to control. I can identify with her as a strong woman. I can even see why she might feel she has something to prove in a man's world. I just don't get why that man's opinion matters so much to her when he clearly tries to push her around in an effort to make himself feel like he's still in control.
I saw no "Father/Daughter" relationship in this. It was more like:
"Creep sees woman who is stronger and smarter than him. He feels threatened by her so he messes with her emotions in order to control her. He wants to possess her and would probably love to corner her in a dark room."
"Naive, young, woman sees guy in position of power that she likes but isn't able to sort out her emotions. She tries to alleviate the awkwardness and repress the sexual tension of liking her commanding officer by dismissing it as her seeing him as a 'father figure' [because apparently her Chozo parents weren't good enough now]. Now naive girl has 'creepy, incestuous, sexual problem' as opposed to just 'teenage hormone problems.'"
Next time, please, please, please, ask a woman, who embodies the kinds of traits you'd LIKE Samus to have, to proof-read the story before ruining her. (Or don't pawn off the project to other companies who clearly have male ego problems).

Loved the game play. Hated the awkward relationship between Samus and Adam. Wished Ridley ate Adam because he didn't deserve the hero shot in Sector 0. Loved Anthony, hope to see him again. (And if you had killed Anthony off, I would have been 1,000x more pissed off at the stupid story in this game).
17. We are in the process of collecting testimonials from Club Nintendo members about Metroid: Other M; could you tell us why you would recommend Metroid: Other M to someone? (250 character max)
- I didn't comment because I really can't recommend this to someone who liked "Super Metroid" because while the game play reminds me of it, the story makes me think most people would react the same way I did.
Overall, I HATED certain aspects of the story, but there was nothing wrong with the actual game play or the visuals. Just... have so much hate for Adam.
