Things have been pretty crazy at work. Since 3rd quarter I have been trying to do a painting of a fraternity shield for our DARE officer. His old one got "wet" somehow and it warped the canvas. So he wanted me to copy the old one onto a new canvas. It took me almost all of 3rd quarter to find enough free time to do it (I did it at school, I wasn't taking that home).

I thought I was finally finished and gave it to him. He was so excited and he was showing it off in the office when someone said, "oh hey what university did you go to?" ... the thing had EVERYTHING on there BUT his university initials. Now, the original was not designed with that and I COPIED the original with some additions we discussed before I started. He comes running back and asks me to add the 4 letters. There was honestly NO ROOM for them because it wasn't PLANNED for that. He decided he wanted them put in four "corners" around the main crest near the middle of the painting. I personally, think the painting looked FINE without them, and thought they cluttered the design. Buuuuut HE'S the customer, so if HE wanted it like that, then I wasn't going to argue... So, I put them on there... he must have liked it because it wasn't in my room when I came in this morning.

A couple weeks ago I was asked by the boss to paint a "news station" logo on this funny shaped desk for a future student-driven-school-news-broadcast (which will either be on the closed circuit TV or on the school website they had not yet decided). The design of the logo wasn't so hard, I just went online and found a suitable font and drew an eagle head (school mascot). The HARD part was the fact that the desk was shaped strangely (a sort of \---/ shape if you were looking down on it from above, with the desk "front" being the concave part). The curve wasn't the worst of it, the worst part was the "front" was made with something that looked like it was recycled trim. So, it had these grooves cut in it to make a planked appearance and it was lumpy. So, I had all these grooves to paint into, and the paint ran into the grooves and spread downward in a few places. I managed to cover that when I outlined it in black, but it still was annoying. That took the entire work day at the end of 3rd quarter (when MOST teachers get to work on grades, obviously, I did mine ahead of time...)

Then right after I was drafted to do the desk, I asked by the assistant superintendent to make some banners for a special event... I didn't really mind (as it was a fairly simple request) and I hope this implies I can get a nice recommendation one day ;} But when I began working on them, the first paint I tried left dark streaks. So I had to start over and use a different paint ><; That set me back and made the job take twice as long... They were finally finished this morning.

I also spent a large chunk of my weekend and early this week looking up dinosaurs and ice age animals. I still have about 10 weeks of the school year left (9 if you don't count this week) and I do NOT know what to do with Pre-K. I am not technically trained to deal with Pre-K and I only had to teach Pre-K one year before this year (and it was torment that year too). I needed to buy myself more time and eat up some of these remaining weeks. Since they just did dinosaurs in class, I thought this would work well. I found a neat German artist, Heinrich Harder, who apparently was known for illustrating books for a popular naturalist in the early 1900s. His drawings are a bit "crude" compared to what we know now (one features "Brontosaurus" for example) but, it's really interesting work.

So, in addition to his work, I found lots of nice new modern dinosaur illustrations (with all kinds of new ideas like feathered dinosaurs, and colorful markings on the skin) and while I was at it I decided to look up a bunch of ice age animals (which I admittedly know less about but that's what the research was for).

I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of new dinosaurs that are popular now. When I was a kid I know for a fact I couldn't name this many xx; From all this research I put together 3 Power Point presentations that I will use to eat up 3 classes with Pre-K and I plan on having them draw dinosaurs and ice age animals for 2 classes... which makes this little plan eat up 5 weeks of the remaining 9 ^_^ It only took me about oh... 12 hours of work 9_9

The GOOD news is I can use this stuff next year. I think I will have all the kids do dinosaur pictures. I think some oil pastel dinosaur drawings would look awesome... maybe I'll have the little ones use markers... I don't know yet, but it could be fun. I'm in the process of printing out some of the pictures I saved and I will hopefully get them laminated so I can add them to my class image library.

So, the last couple weeks have been busy. To give you an idea of how busy I have been, I still have not beaten Megaman 10. O_o;

Seriously.

I've been that busy.
